PhD thesis in particle physics at the DIPC (expired)

The particle physics group of the Donostia International Physics Center is looking for candidates to carry out a PhD thesis within the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation.

The DIPC particle group leads the NEXT experiment, which searches for neutrinoless double beta decays at the Canfranc underground laboratory, as well as the future neutrino coherent physics program at the European neutron spallation source (nuESS). The DIPC also participates in the HyperKamiokande experiment and is working on applications of nuclear instrumentation to medical imaging, specifically in the development of a PET scanner based on liquid xenon (PETALO). Within the NEXT experiment, the DIPC is involved in the tuning, calibration, operation and exploitation of the NEXT-100 detector, in the development of a new energy measurement system based on optical fibers, and in an interdisciplinary program to detect single Ba2+ ions (barium tagging).

The DIPC particle physics group has the following senior researchers: J.J. Gómez Cadenas, J. Collar, F. Monrabal, P. Ferrario, F. López-Guejo and D. Zerzión, as well as post-doctoral researchers A. Simón and S. R. Soleti. The group also includes a team of engineers and several pre-doctoral students. The main topic of the thesis will be related to the NEXT experiment, but it is possible, depending on the candidate's interests, to include a second project associated with other activities of the group.

According to the call: "Applicants may be anyone who is enrolled or admitted in a PhD program for the 2022/2023 academic year, at the time the application is submitted. Applicants may also be all those persons who, at the time of submission of the application, not being enrolled or admitted in a doctoral program, are in a position to be enrolled or admitted on the date on which the contract is formalized."

As a reference, last year the deadline for the formalization of contracts was the end of July. Access to all the information about the call (templates, FAQs, access to the application form) can be found at: https://www.aei.gob.es/convocatorias/buscador-convocatorias/ayudas-contratos-predoctorales-formacion-doctoresas-2022.

The application is open from 12/01/2023 until 26/01/2023 at 14:00 CET.
